About GPRbase
An MDS initiative for the GPR community
Official description
GPRbase is a free library of real-world Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) datasets, recorded in the field and documented, published under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence. It is intended for education, professional training, research, software development and machine learning. GPRbase is created and maintained by MDS – Le Matériel de Sondage, in Aix-en-Provence, France.
Our mission
GPRbase was created to meet a simple need: providing easy access to quality GPR data for training and research, and to test data before renting or purchasing equipment.
Too often, users lack real data to practise radargram interpretation. GPRbase fills that gap: 30 raw, documented field datasets covering reinforced concrete, buried utilities, geotechnics, pavements, built heritage and geosciences.
Access costs nothing. The data is published under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0: free to reuse for teaching and research, with attribution, but not for commercial purposes without separate authorisation. We say free rather than open, because that restriction exists and we would rather state it.

Who are we?
GPRbase is an initiative by MDS - Le Matériel de Sondage, a distributor and trainer specialized in non-destructive testing and detection equipment.
Drawing on our experience in GPR training, we identified the need for access to varied and documented data to improve training quality.
How does it work?
GPRbase collects and makes available GPR datasets from various sources:
- Data acquired during our training sessions and demonstrations
- Community contributions (operators, researchers, trainers)
- Partnerships with laboratories and universities
Each dataset is documented with essential metadata (equipment, context, what's visible) to facilitate learning.

These official files may be used to cite, present or reference GPRbase — in course material, an article, a presentation or a website.
Use of these resources does not imply any affiliation, partnership or endorsement by MDS or GPRbase. Please do not alter the proportions or the colours of the logos.

GPRbase is described in a paper deposited on Zenodo with a persistent identifier (DOI). Use this reference to cite the resource in academic or teaching work.

A second paper, on the use of the datasets for training in concrete non-destructive testing, appeared in the e-Journal of Nondestructive Testing. It describes twelve concrete datasets, six training exercises and the metadata declared for each, including ground truth:
