T-Shaped Retaining Wall: Variable Thickness from a Vertical then Horizontal GPR Profile
Description
T-shaped retaining wall surveyed with a GSSI FLEX NX antenna. A single profile, run first vertically up the stem, then horizontally, without interrupting the acquisition.
The concrete-air interface at the back face stands out clearly on the radargram. Its depth gives the stem thickness at any point, and the stem of a T-wall is not of constant thickness: it thickens towards the base to resist earth pressure. The back-wall reflector therefore forms an oblique line rather than one parallel to the surface.
The change of direction mid-profile produces a visible break in the section. Recognising it is part of the exercise: it is a reminder that the distance axis follows the antenna path, not the geometry of the structure.
