Buried utility crossing and two metal manhole covers — dual-frequency Compass NX profile (.nx)
Description
Single profile acquired with the GSSI Compass NX across a crossing of several buried utilities, passing over two metal manhole covers. Both channels, 400 MHz and 1 GHz, are recorded simultaneously along the same line, in the native .nx format.
A good starting point to discover the .nx format, which opens in GPRviewer and Geolitix. The two channels make a direct comparison possible: the 1 GHz channel resolves shallow targets in more detail, while the 400 MHz channel reaches deeper with less resolution. The diffraction hyperbolas produced by the utilities can be used to calibrate wave velocity, and therefore the dielectric constant, from their shape. The manhole covers show what strong metallic reflections look like next to utility signatures.
No ground truth: utility positions, depths and natures have not been verified.
